Tour Itinerary:
Day "0":
In case you're staying in Eilat the day before your tour, it is recommended that you stop by the local post office for a few minutes and pay the Israeli departure taxes. Although these can be paid at the border (for a small fee), it might be wise to beat the crowds and pay the taxes a day ahead.
Day 1:
Take a taxi or drive your rental car to the Arava (Yitzhak Rabin Crossing) near Eilat. It should cost about US $15 from your hotel or the airport. Cross into Jordan where you will meet your local representative and guide who will assist your crossing. Then transfer to Wadi Rum desert, also known as "The Valley of the Moon" for its awesome moonlike landscape. A 4 x 4 vehicle driven by a local Bedouin will be ready at the camp to start a 2-hour
drive in the desert.
Wadi Rum is probably best known because of its connection with the enigmatic British officer T.E. Lawrence, who was based here during the Great Arab Revolt of 1917-18 and as the setting for the film that carried his name "Lawrence of Arabia". Everywhere in this moonscaped place are indications of man's presence since the earliest known times. Lunch after the tour and drive to Petra.
If your tour is taking place on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday, then entrance fees are included for the fabulous "Petra by Night" tour. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2:

After breakfast leave the hotel early in the morning and begin your discovery of Petra, the Rose-Red city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Petra is the legacy of the Nabateans who settled in south Jordan and Israel more than 2000 years ago. Much of Petra's appeal comes from its spectacular setting deep inside a narrow desert gorge. From the main entrance, the visitor travels on foot through the awesome "Siq", an immense crack in the sandstone that winds for one kilometer between overhanging cliffs. Petra's most famous monument, the Treasury, appears dramatically at the end of the Siq and various walks and climbs reveal literally hundreds of buildings, facades, tombs, baths, funerary halls, temples and a 3000-seat theater from the 1st Century AD.
Enjoy lunch in Petra after the tour and transfer back to the Arava border crossing to cross back into Israel. Take a taxi or drive your car back to the hotel or the airport.
